Microsoft launches new logo after 25 years

Microsoft will use a new logo for the first time in over two and a half decades. The software titan has created a new logo which has been heavily inspired by the emblem of Windows operating system. This change in the logo also shows the company's focus on the tile-centric Metro interface, which it uses in the Windows Phone platform, XBOX 360 and the upcoming Windows 8 and Office suite. 

On the Microsoft Blog on TechNet, Jeff Hansen, the general manager of brand strategy at the company, said that this step will ensure that a consistent user experience can be delivered across all platforms, from PCs and phones to tablets and television. 

Rather than the previous emblem, which only had the name of the company, this new logo has 'Microsoft' written in Segoe font on the right and square with four tiles, reminiscent of the Metro UI, on the left. 

The new "Microsoft logo" is already on the company website and in retail stores in Boston, Seattle and Bellevue. It will be seen heavily in advertisements as well as intra-organisation communications.

Microsoft has launched a new feature for Office 2013 which is very similar to the Windows Store for Windows 8 apps. Called the new Office Store, it allows third party app developers to create, publish, sell and distribute Microsoft Office related apps. The store is specifically designed for Office 2013 applications.

Few weeks ago Microsoft announced the availability of its Office 2013 productivity suite. In yesterday's Office Store announcement, Microsoft revealed its new features.

Microsoft has continued its tradition with the implementation of Metro UI on its every product, including Windows Store and Windows Phone Marketplace. The Office Store is also entirely based on similar-looking UI which allows consumers to not only feel at home but also get detailed information about third party apps with user submitted reviews.

“Since these apps are all based on web-standards, they load straight away – there’s no need for IT to pre-load them. If you use a new machine, just sign-in with your Microsoft account and all your apps will be there. Best of all, when you send a document that was created using an app (like an infographic in an Excel spreadsheet), a reference to it travels with the document so the recipient can start using that app too. Improving your productivity (and your co-workers’) has never been so simple!” - Microsoft states in their blogpost.

According to Microsoft, the Office Store has been designed for three main reasons - integration, simplicity and developer opportunity, aimed to make the working and operation of Office Store very easy and simple, encouraging users to use different kind of apps. You can easily integrate and discover the best of the web and apps with the features of Office and SharePoint.

With Microsoft’s Office Store, various opportunities are available for the developer community, as they can build productivity apps for users. Once after successful development and submission of an application, its features enables them to reach a huge amount of audience and monetize.

Microsoft's Surface powered by Windows 8 is scheduled to release on  October 26 this year. The  Release of the OS will bring some good news for the Windows users as the release of Microsoft's first Windows RT-based tablet, Surface.

The news is confirmed . US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) which states,

"The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices." 

Microsoft says,

 "Suggested retail pricing will be announced closer to availability and is expected to be competitive with a comparable ARM tablet or Intel Ultrabook-class PC."

Windows RT version of Surface :

• Weight: About 1.5 lbs. (676 grams)
• Thickness: 9.3 mm

A new video created by Microsoft shows how the company imagines technology will progress in the future, with mobile devices and interactive touch screens playing an even bigger role in our Live.
According to President, Microsoft Office Division, Kurt DelBene,
“We create these videos to help tell the story we see unfolding in technology, and how it will impact our lives in the future. The video shows our vision for a future where technology extends and highlights our productive capabilities; it helps us manage our time better, focus our attention on the most important things, and foster meaningful connections with the people we care about.
All of the ideas in the video are based on real technology. Some of the capabilities, such as speech recognition, real time collaboration and data visualization already exist today. Others are not yet available in specific products, but represent active research and development happening at Microsoft and other companies.”
