Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Review

Back in 2011, Samsung surprised everyone with the Galaxy Note 'phablet' smartphone. The phone managed to carve out its own niche in the smartphone market and was a huge success for the company. Now,Samsung is back with with the Galaxy Note 2, an improved second generation of the phablet, which brings along a faster processor, larger display and many software updates.

Design:

The Galaxy Note 2 looks like a larger version of the company's flagship S3 smartphone. It has a plastic exterior measuring 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm, which makes it slimmer than the original Note. The body has a glossy finish which looks nice but doesn't do a great job at hiding fingerprints. At the front, you get a large 5.5 inches display along with a physical Home key and two capacitive touch keys. Above the display, there is a speaker, front facing camera, status LED and the proximity sensor. The left edge of the phone is ccupied by the volume rocker, whereas the right side houses the power/stand-by button.Over at the bottom, you get microUSB port and the S-Pen slot while the 3.5 mm audio jack can be found on the top edge. The back panel can be removed to reveal the microSD card slot, microSIm card slot and 3100 mAh battery. On the whole, the Note 2 has a gorgeous design and you can easily tell that this is a premium device with a high price tag.

Software:

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 arrives with Google's Android Jelly Bean v4.1 operating system and Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. The home screen has seven different panes which can be customized with widgets, shortcuts, notes, etc. for easy access. You also get the new Jelly Bean features like Google Now and Project Butter which provide a delightful user experience. Samsung has taken the software to a whole new level with features like smart stay, S-voice, Smart Rotate, S-Suggest, S-Planner and much more.

Camera:

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 offers an 8 megapixel camera with a single LED flash and auto focus. The front-  facing camera has a 1.9 megapixel sensor which is capable of HD video recording. The camera app has any features like face detection, smile shot, Best Photo mode, HDR mode photo editing and much more. The image quality of the photos captured with the rear camera is excellent with amazingly realistic colors and detail. The primary camera can also be used for 1080p HD video recording.

Display:

The smartphone has a large 5.5-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. That's 267 pixels spread over every inch of the display. Additionally, the screen is layered with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 for protection against scratches and occasional falls. Overall, the image quality of the display is top class with deep blacks and infinite contrast levels. The large size of the display provides a good viewing experience while playing games or while watching movies.

Performance:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 runs on a powerful quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.6 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. Unsurprisingly, the phone is extremely fast and smooth which makes it ideal for running high- end apps, 3D games and multi-tasking. Since it has a larger display, Samsung has equipped it with a 3100 mAh removable Li-Ion battery which is good enough to keep the phone running for 1-2 days depending on your usage.

Final Thoughts:

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a great device with no significant shortcomings. It has a great design, large display, excellent software features and top-notch hardware specs. Furthermore, there aren't many options available in the market which can match this amazing phablet.

The market has been flooded with Android smartphones over the past few years. However, only few have been able to distinguish themselves with their innovative features. Among them, is the HTC One X+ which boasts of some incredible features like a quad-core processor, 4.7 inch display and the latest version of Android. Its predecessor, the HTC One X, was already popular among Android users for its powerful performance. But, HTC has made sure users get a much better experience on the One X Plus by providing a faster processor, improved Beats Audio technology, increased on-board storage and the latest software versions.

In today's world, it is extremely vital to stay connected to the internet not just for information but entertainment as well. The phone does just that by offering the best web browsing and social networking experience. The in-built web browser supports HTML and Adobe Flash so all websites can be accessed easily. Its bright and large 4.7 inches Super LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display is ideal for surfing the internet and accessing social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. You also don't have to worry damaging the display as it is well-protected from scratches and damage by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. HTC One X+ also provides users with a high resolution 8-megapixel rear camera which can be used to shoot amazing images and videos. The front-facing camera above the display has a 1.6 MP sensor and is capable of recording 720p videos at the rate of 30 frames per second. All these incredible features are available on HTC One X+ Deals.

HTC One X+ provides the latest software not just in terms of the operating system but also the user interface. It runs Google's Android Jelly Bean (v4.1.1) operating system out of the box and can be upgraded to v4.2. It is also the first phone to feature HTC's improved Sense user interface v4+ which is smoother and lighter than the earlier versions. Inside the phone, is some of best hardware you will find in mobile phones. It has a NVIDIA Tegra 3 AP37 chipset with a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor and ULD GeForce 2 graphics processor. There aren't many phones featuring a quad-core processor so the device finds itself in the elite company of popular handsets like the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3. Internal memory is 32 GB or 64 GB depending on the model you buy while RAM is 1 GB.

[How To's]Optimze your website for Mobiles devices

This is a Guest Article about the Optimization of Website for Mobile Devices From the Editor of Sahipasand mobile ,

Let's Start Optimze your website for Mobiles devices :

These days, one of the most essential things for any webmaster is to have a mobile friendly website. Smartphone usage has increased significantly and rapidly, and a lot of the internet traffic today is strictly mobile. Not having your site optimized for mobile devices leaves you in a position to lose potential visitors and customers. With that knowledge in mind, your biggest decision to make at this point is not if you should go mobile, but what is the best way to do it – with a plugin or with a new web platform. Both using a plugin and creating a web platform have their advantages and disadvantages, so keep on reading this article, to understand which option is better for you to take your website on-the-go.

Mobile Plugins
Using mobile plugins is definitely the easier route to take. They are generally offered by the host of your website or a third party, and give you the opportunity to install a plugin on your website that automatically converts it to mobile. Basically, what this means is that once you have installed the plugin, anyone visiting your site on a mobile device will automatically see your site's mobile optimized version. Plugins are very easy to use, as optimizing requires nothing more than downloading and installing the appropriate one on your website. You will definitely save time and money with a plugin.
However using a plugin means that you will also lose the ability to have much control over your mobile site. There is little, if any opportunity for customizing, meaning that your site will likely be squeezed into a ready-made template that might not be the most conducive to what you are offering.

Mobile Web Platform
Building a brand-new, customized mobile website offers a lot of advantages not available to those using a plugin, customization obviously being the main one. As mentioned, customization lets you control the design and layout of the site, instead of fitting it into a template. If your standard site is highly customized, it will probably be worth to spend the extra time and money to do a custom design also for your mobile site– you will want that extra control over the final look, and be able to ensure that you can retain all the features. This usually means that you will be able to use more media-rich content, like videos, maps and info graphics  and control how it looks, and just generally retain more of the features from your standard site like the look, style, and brand identity that you cultivated so carefully on your main website.

Choosing between the two has a lot to do with your available resources and time, but do think long and hard about whether customizing is really necessary for your site. If you follow a fairly standard, text-based format, it might not be worth the money and headache to customize. And if you do go the customizing route, work with and listen to the experts. You do not want to end up spending a lot of time and money developing a inefficient website.

Google's Experiment - Sony Product

Google's experiment to bring Plain Vanilla Android to Sony's Smartphone.

Sony Xperia S

Jean-Baptiste Query (JBQ), Google's Technical Lead of the Android Open Source Project delivered the good news.

Sony Xperia S was selected to this experiment according to JBQ:
"it's a powerful current GSM device, with an unlockable bootloader, from a manufacturer that has always been very friendly to AOSP."
Sony of course will have to play a role in the project as well, but given the company's good record with AOSP involvement, we doubt it will be an issue.

Google's project will essentially bring the Sony Xperia S into the privileged fold of the Nexus family of devices - a mighty great perspective, which is bound to make the handset a lot more attractive.

Samsung Becomes No 1 in SmartPhone Beats Apple

Samsung took its lead over Apple in smartphones, Due to Arrival of  new Galaxy phones before Apple updated its iPhone.

Samsung's Galaxy S III phone got good reviews right from the release. In US, the phones work with the faster 4G network. The Galaxy's screen is much larger than the iPhone's, while the Samsung phone is lighter and thinner.  An iPhone with 4G capabilities isn't expected until this fall. IPhone 4S, came out in October, as the sales dropped several months after its release.

According to IDC, Samsung Electronics shipped 50.2 million smartphones worldwide and had a market share of 33 per cent, up from 17 per cent a year ago. Apple fell down a bit to 17 per cent, from 19 per cent a year ago. It sold 26 million iPhones in the April-June.

Having the Galaxy S III before the new iPhone, it also benefited from its strategy of developing several devices for a range of consumers. On the other-hand, Apple targets only the high-end market with its iPhone. IDC’s report after Samsung Galaxy sales was that it was the highest sale record as it had a quarterly profit. These sales made all other consumer electronic businesses such as television and PC’s.

Reports of the analyst speaks that Samsung will achieve a new high profit record by the third quarter, but they also may slow down as the Apple’s new iPhone shows out.The shipping of the phone manufacturers is 154 million smartphones by second quarter, 42 per cent increase from 108 million a year. Including mobile phones, vendors shipped 406 million units, up from 402 million a year earlier.

Samsung and Apple combined claimed nearly half of the smartphone market. Nokia is third with a 6.6 per cent market share, down from more than 15 per cent a year ago. HTC is fourth with 5.7 per cent of the market, down from nearly 11 per cent. Chinese phone ZTE has reached in the fifth spot for the first time, with a 5.2 per cent market share, up from 1.8 per cent a year earlier. Its lower-cost, entry-level smartphones have been popular in China and Latin America.

Best smartphone above Rs 30,000 in October-November

Best smartphone above Rs 30,000 in October-November

Last month before Diwali, about 19 different smartphones were launched in India.

Though there weren't that many this month, we did see some new high-end smartphones. This list is for you if you want a smartphone that can do everything, including looking really good.

All these new smartphones are priced above Rs 20,000.

  • APPLE iPhone 4S   : Several users ceased purchasing iPhone 4 in September-October and waited for the iPhone 4S instead. With a distinctive virtual assistant feature, the iPhone 4S is an improved version of iPhone 4 in terms of specs.
A dual-core Apple A5 SoC mobile processor, the iPhone 4S promises twice the processing power its predecessor had

Apple has put in an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash which is capable of capturing high quality images and 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second.

Also, Apple's iCloud storage service is also accessible using iPhone 4S and offers up to 5 GB of online storage. The device runs iOS 5.0 with several new features.

With the same 3.7 inch retina display screen, the distinctive feature of the iPhone 4S is Siri, the virtual assistant that is voiced by a lady. Indian consumers will have to struggle with the voice.

The Apple iPhone 4S will be available in India at Rs 44,500 for a 16 GB model, and Rs 51,000 and Rs 57,500 for a 32 GB model.

  • Motorola RAZR XT910 :  Motorola revisited its slim line of smartphones with the new RAZR XT910. Featuring a big 4.3 inch Super Amoled display with qHD (960 x 540 pixel) resolution, the new Motorola RAZR XT910 is 7.1 mm thin.

Its display uses Gorilla Glass to make it sturdy and scratch resistant. The Kevlar fibers at the back too add to the tough look. The smartphone has a dual-core 1.2 GHz mobile processor to power Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, which can be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich when it arrives.

At the back of the phone there is an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash that is capable of recording video at full HD, or 1080p, resolution. There is also a Backside-Illuminated Sensor (BSI-2) that helps in clicking better quality images in poor light.

The front facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat is also HD capable. Samsung's new MotoCast App that debuts with the phone allows wireless content streaming.

For better audio response the handset features a 1780 mAh battery that promises talk time of up to 9 hours on 2G networks.
Motorola's legendary RAZR smartphone indeed is chic, svelte and powerful enough to open apps quickly, run games and multi-task.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 : Samsung's new Galaxy Note GT-N7000 despite appearing like a mini-tablet, is actually a large-screen smartphone.

The perfect mashup of a smartphone and tablet, the Galaxy Note is a modern day digital assistant with new S Pen stylus which is extremely useful for taking quick notes, drawing/sketching, signing and even navigating through menus.

Galaxy Note has a 5.3 inch Super Amoled HD screen with native 720p HD resolution. We had the chance to try the Samsung Galaxy Note at its launch.

The Samsung Galaxy Note comes with a dual core 1.4 GHz processor that powers Android 2.3.x Gingerbread with TouchWiz UI and Live Panels layered on top. Galaxy Note has an 8 megapixel camera with flash that can record full HD videos. After that you can edit videos on Note itself. The bigger display might look a bit cumbersome but in fact it is amazingly helpful while taking quick notes or working on something important.

Samsung Galaxy Note is priced at Rs 35,000 which does sound a bit heavy on the pocket but is actually quite reasonable if you consider its features and powerful 2500 mAh battery.

  • HTC Sensation XE : HTC's new Sensation XE has been quietly made available in India through retail channels though the smartphone is yet to be formally launched.

This smartphone running Android 2.3 Gingerbread features a 4.3 inch touchscreen display and houses a dual core 1.5 GHz processor.
Apart from its qHD (960 x 540 pixel) display, the Sensation XE has an 8 megapixel camera that is capable of recording full HD 1080p video at 30 fps.

Sensation XE is the first handset for India that features Beats Audio profiles pre-loaded on the handset alongwith Beats earphones. As soon as you plug in the earphones, the pre-configured audio profiles enhance the music. That's what HTC claims though we are yet to test this claim.

HTC Sensation XE comes with a 1730 mAh battery that makes it last longer than usual high-end Android smartphones. Of course, this handset is capable of running Android 4.0 ICS update which will be released when ready. HTC Sensation XE is being sold at a rough retail price of Rs 32,400 which might be a bit expensive but might be worth it for those who love music and HTC's Sense user interface.

  • Samsung Galaxy S II : Samsung's flagship device Galaxy S II GT-i9100 continues to be a popular high end smartphone.

This handset's most noteworthy feature is its large 4.27 inch Super Amoled Plus touchscreen that supports 800 x 480 pixel resolution.

Galaxy S II runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the new TouchWiz 4.0 user interface. The mobile operating system is fast and smooth, thanks to its dual core 1.2 GHz Samsung Exynos 4210 SoC processor.

The phone has 16 GB of internal storage which can be taken up to 32 GB using a memory card. There might be no need to expand the phone's memory though, because it has a USB on-the-go port that can read flash drives with more than 4 GB capacity.

Featuring an 8 megapixel camera, Galaxy S II can record full 1080p HD videos and delivers brilliant images, and its front facing 2 megapixel VGA camera is great for video chats.

Motorola RAZR to be priced at INR 34K in India, coming soon

Motorola RAZR could be making its way to stores very soon in India, as stated by the company’s country office earlier. This sleek and powerful smartphone will be priced at INR 33,990, as posted on the smartphone listing on Flipkart.

Motorola India will be releasing its most anticipated smartphone of the year RAZR in the country very soon and we all have been guessing the price for a long time and thanks for the coming soon listing on the popular online retailer, we know it is going to cost us a hefty INR 33,990.

There are a lot of reasons of the almost unreasonable pricing in the country, and I am not sure how many of you are actually going to spend this much to grab the phone. The depreciation of rupee in the recent times is one major factor, which has also forced other manufacturers to think about correcting their existing smartphone prices as well. As all these smartphones are manufactured outside India, exchange rates play a very important role along with all the duties and taxes on how a particular device is going to be priced in the country.

Coming back to RAZR, it features a

  •  dual core 1.2GHz TI OMAP processor,
  • 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Advanced display with Gorilla Glass, just 7.1mm thickness, Kevlar fibre on the back to increase durability, and
  • 8MP rear camera with 1.3M front shooter.

Sony Ericsson has officially announced Xperia Pro and neo V - pro order  in the Indian market today. If you recall, we have already reported about the market availability of Xperia neo V, so it is just a formality for the smartphone. On the other hand, globally announced way back in Feb at Mobile World Congress along with Xperia Arc, Pro is going to be finally available in the country.

Sony Ericsson is releasing its products in India pretty fast; it was just a month back that company officially introduced Xperia Pro and neo V in the country. Although, we are still waiting for company’s press release for Arc S launch, but it is pretty normal these days for smartphones to go on sale even before companies officially announce them (sometimes they don’t even do that).

1.4 GHz processor

Xperia Active - Ultimate Android Smartphone For Your Active Life

Flick it, kick it, throw it, wet it. Drag and drop it. And watch it come back for more. The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is a survivor. The rugged smartphone has a Bravia Reality display and exchangeable covers, 1GHz of oomph and HD video, and plenty of sporty apps. It's got you - tucked under an arm strap. It goes wherever you go.
Durable smartphones are becoming an Android-exclusive niche and Sony Ericsson want in. But the Xperia active believes that an IP67-certified phone doesn't have to be all muscle and no charm.
The Xperia active is a cute little phone - the action-scene body double of the Xperia mini. Go ahead, laugh it up, Sonim. This is a phone that doesn't take much pocket space, which is a big plus in our book. And no, they don’t have to be cargo pockets either.

The IP67-certified Xperia active is supposed to withstand water immersion in up to a meter for as long as half an hour. It's also dust-proof and shock-resistant. Before you ask, we're not going to test it to the very limit of endurance. Like we said, some real heavy duty rugged phones can sneer all they want. It's just that a compact sporty smartphone for both urban and wilderness hikes may as well have the last laugh.

Key features

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support
  • 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
  • 3.0" 16M-color LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen of HVGA resolution (320 x 480 pixels)
  • Bravia Mobile engine
  • Dust and water resistant, wet-finger tracking
  • Dual back cover design for increased protection
  • Arm case and wrist strap in the bundle
  • Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread
  • 1 GHz MSM8255 Snapdragon processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 5 MP autofocus camera, single LED flashlight, Geo-tagging, image stabilization, smile detection, touch focus 720p video @ 30fps
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot functionality and DLNA
  • GPS with A-GPS, Wisepilot navigation
  • microSD slot (32GB supported, 2GB card included)
  • Accelerometer and proximity sensor, notification LED
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • TrackID music recognition
  • Relevant package of apps
  • MicroUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1
  • Adobe Flash 10.3 support
  • 1200mAh Li-ion battery
Main disadvantages

  • No secondary camera, no video calls
  • No smart dialing
  • Loudspeaker has below average performance
  • Typing is uncomfortable on the small screen
  • No DivX/XviD support
The Xperia active has the specs and looks of an Xperia mini. What you get is a full-featured smartphone with some high-end ingredients like the Reality Display, Snapdragon processor and HD video. It's a phone for an active lifestyle - it's got the proper build and the right set of apps. Sony Ericsson did not skimp on the in-box accessories either.
The Xperia active doesn't quite look the typical rugged phone, no ribbed hardened rubber case. It's definitely sporty though and the compact size more than makes sense for a handset you’re likely to take on jogs or bike rides.

With Sony Ericsson planning to focus exclusively on smartphones, they know they need to add more variety to their lineup. That includes distinctly niche phones like the Xperia active. Keeping an eye on the competition is a good thing too. The Xperia active seems to fit comfortably between a Samsung Galaxy S5690 Xcover and a Motorola Defy+. And being the smallest of the bunch isn't necessarily a bad thing. They don't call it survival of the biggest, right?
So, the Xperia active is the kind that thrives on action. Let's get busy then and see what the rugged droid is really made of

The video shows our vision for a future where technology extends and highlights our productive capabilities; it helps us manage our time better, focus our attention on the most important things, and foster meaningful connections with the people we care about.
All of the ideas in the video are based on real technology. Some of the capabilities, such as speech recognition, real time collaboration and data visualization already exist today.
