NEWYORK: Cellphones have already muscled onto watches' turf as a time-telling tool. Now, some of the biggest technology companies are eyeing your wrist, too.

Companies like Apple, Nike and Sony, along with dozens of startups, hope to strap a device on your wrist.

It's quite a disruption for the wristwatch, which has not actually been around all that long. Though said to have been invented in 1868 by the Swiss watchmaker PhiliPatekppe, it didn't really catch on until after World War I. Before that, people carried watches in their pockets or on chains.

"Watch manufacturers were asking themselves this in the 1900s, if it made sense to have a watch in their pocket," said Blaise Bertrand, industrial design director for IDEO, a design company. "I think that's the same question that is being asked now, but it's in a completely different context with the smartphone in our pockets."

The new wrist devices won't replace smartphones, but rather connect to them. Most will continue the basic task of telling the time, while eliminating the need to dig a smartphone out of your pocket or purse.

But they will provide far more information than the most advanced G-Shock watch available today, or the most expensive chronometer.

For example, Sony this year released the Smartwatch, a 2-inch-square screen that can display emails, Twitter posts and other pieces of text, all pulled from an Android smartphone.

Nike Fuel, a black band with an array of colored lights, measures the energy you exert on a daily basis and sends it to a smartphone. Jawbone sells the Up, a unisex bracelet that tracks a user's daily activity and sends the information to an iPhone application.

Pebble, an innovative watch that can play music and display text, the weather and other information from a phone, caught the public's imagination on Kickstarter, where it raised $10.3 million. It's expected to arrive next year.

It is the extension of the phone that is appealing. "The wrist becomes a remote screen where you now have the ability to control your phone with a number of different applications," said Stephen Sneeden, Sony's product marketing manager.

No More Youtube app For Apple - iOS 6 Updates

Apple and Google has reached a new height - Apple has announced that the latest version of their mobile OS, iOS 6, which will run on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, will not include the popular video streaming app, YouTube.

The video streaming will be available to the users via web browsers.As YouTube is a native app, removal of it is a bit downer for users.Currently, Apple and Google are the market dominators with their respective mobile OSes i.e., iOS and Android respectively.

Google Earth for iOS brings 3D imagery to the iPad 2, the new iPad and the iPhone 4S. This allow users to peruse the 3D images and landscapes of the included cities .

Some cities covered by the upgrade are Tucson, San Francisco Bay Area, Italy, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, Boulder and Charlotte. The list also has Peninsula, Long Beach (Ca), Portland, Boston, San Deigo, Lawrence (Kan), Tampa, Rome, and East Bay on it.

A map must be comprehensive and accurate no matter where you are or what device you use. We also believe maps can be useful in ways you might not have imagined. With today’s release of Google Earth for iOS you can literally fly through breathtaking 3D city landscapes and images and follow virtual tours of places you’ve never been — all with a simple swipe of your fingertip. It’s a new, and I think magical way to explore the world in which we live,” states a post on official Google Lat Long blog.

This update also puts a feature dubbed tour guide that helps users explore new locations. Simply provoking the tab placed on the screen’s lower panel is bound to enable a tour guide. Each of the images will display the tourist destinations in the respective region. Hitting on a location will take users to the place virtually. Additional information about the venues will arrive from Wikipedia. The attribute is compatible with iOS 4.2 and higher devices.

Samsung took its lead over Apple in smartphones, Due to Arrival of new Galaxy phones before Apple updated its iPhone.

Samsung's Galaxy S III phone got good reviews right from the release. In US, the phones work with the faster 4G network. The Galaxy's screen is much larger than the iPhone's, while the Samsung phone is lighter and thinner. An iPhone with 4G capabilities isn't expected until this fall. IPhone 4S, came out in October, as the sales dropped several months after its release.

According to IDC, Samsung Electronics shipped 50.2 million smartphones worldwide and had a market share of 33 per cent, up from 17 per cent a year ago. Apple fell down a bit to 17 per cent, from 19 per cent a year ago. It sold 26 million iPhones in the April-June.

Having the Galaxy S III before the new iPhone, it also benefited from its strategy of developing several devices for a range of consumers. On the other-hand, Apple targets only the high-end market with its iPhone. IDC’s report after Samsung Galaxy sales was that it was the highest sale record as it had a quarterly profit. These sales made all other consumer electronic businesses such as television and PC’s.

Reports of the analyst speaks that Samsung will achieve a new high profit record by the third quarter, but they also may slow down as the Apple’s new iPhone shows out.The shipping of the phone manufacturers is 154 million smartphones by second quarter, 42 per cent increase from 108 million a year. Including mobile phones, vendors shipped 406 million units, up from 402 million a year earlier.

Samsung and Apple combined claimed nearly half of the smartphone market. Nokia is third with a 6.6 per cent market share, down from more than 15 per cent a year ago. HTC is fourth with 5.7 per cent of the market, down from nearly 11 per cent. Chinese phone ZTE has reached in the fifth spot for the first time, with a 5.2 per cent market share, up from 1.8 per cent a year earlier. Its lower-cost, entry-level smartphones have been popular in China and Latin America.

Steps To Jailbreak iPhone 4S / iPad 2 5.0.1 using Absinthe (Both Mac & Windows)

Now You can jailbreak your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 using the DreamTeam's Absinthe program . Here is our full step-by-step installation guide.
The Absinthe Untethered Jailbreak will support the following devices :

iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0, 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A406)
iPad 2 Wifi/GSM/CDMA running iOS 5.0.1

Step 1 : Download Absinthe from here (Mac) or here (Windows), extract it, than run it.
Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to your computer via USB.
Step 3: Click "Jailbreak" to run the program. The process takes awhile in the beginning so don't worry! It will eventually say "Restoring in Progress," leave the device alone until it's completely finished.

Step 4: Once it's done, you should see the Absinthe icon on the Home screen. Tap the icon and it will then take you to the Greenpois0n site and reboot your idevice. After it loads back up, the Cydia icon will have replaced the Absinthe icon.
And that's all folks! You can than head over to Cydia and download all your favorite tweaks and apps! Ipad 3 now available for pre order

Apple on Wednesday unveiled its new iPad during a press conference in San Francisco.

The sleek tablet features

2,049 x 1,536-pixel Retina Display,
a quad-core Apple A5X processor,
a new 5-megapixel camera and
the option for 4G LTE connectivity

iPad 3 is now available for pre-order from Apple’s online store and pricing starts at $499 for the Wi-Fi-only model with 16GB of internal storage, topping out at $829 for the 64GB version with embedded 3G and 4G LTE. Pre-orders will be delivered on Friday, March 16th when the tablet goes on sale in stores and online. Apple’s 16GB iPad 2 is now available for $399 as well, $100 off its previous price.

IPAD running IOS 6.0 ?

Apple’s next-generation iPad running iOS 6.0 may have already visited a number of popular websites. While going through logs in preparation for a monthly browser report, ArsTechnica discovered 346 visits from a device with a screen resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 — matching the resolution of the display rumored to be coming to Apple’s iPad 3.

The site then began to look at iPad user agents coming from Apple’s Cupertino corporate IP block and discovered that Apple appears to be browsing the Web with iPads running iOS 6.0. The listing displayed

iPads running iOS 5.0,
the current iOS 5.0.1,
the developer version of iOS 5.1 and
the upcoming iOS 6.0 as well.

iPads running iOS 6.0 were also using a newer build of WebKit, version 535.8, up from WebKit 534.46. ArsTechinca believes the Cupertino-based company will release the slate with iOS 5.1 and release iOS 6.0 with the next iPhone. Apple’s iPad 3 event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7th(Today)
