Steps To Install ADB on MAC OS

Today am gonna give the steps how to install ADB on MAC ,This steps does not require the full Android SDK installation on your mac to use Android Debug , rather you just have to install the required files and you are good to go.

STEP 1: Download Required ADB files ZIP from here.

STEP 2: Extract the downloaded ZIP to a folder/directory that you can easily locate.

STEP 3: While you can start using ADB right away, but you will have to navigate to the folder that you created by unzipping the ADB files, to use ADB. So, we will make an entry in ~/.bash_profile configuration files to make ADB accessible from terminal normally from anywhere.

STEP 4: Open Terminal on your mac and type the following command

nano ~/.bash_profile

STEP 5: The above command will open a file in a text editor, now add the following line in the end of that file.

export PATH=${PATH}:your_sdk_dir

your_sdk_dir is the path to folder that you created in STEP 2. It will be something like Users/George/platform-tools

STEP 6: Save the file and type the following command

source ~/.bash_profile

STEP 7: Now, quit Terminal

STEP 8: Optional: You can install PDAnet by downloading from here; it installs the drivers for popular Android device manufacturers or you can individually download and install drivers for your phone/tablet manufacturer by going to their official website.

Before you connect your Android device to mac, make your to turn on USB Debugging by going to Setting>Applications>Development on your tablet/phone.

And you are done. Connect your device and type adb devices in terminal. It should show your device in the list. If this somehow does not work for you, here is another link to an alternate guide.

[How To's]Optimze your website for Mobiles devices

This is a Guest Article about the Optimization of Website for Mobile Devices From the Editor of Sahipasand mobile ,

Let's Start Optimze your website for Mobiles devices :

These days, one of the most essential things for any webmaster is to have a mobile friendly website. Smartphone usage has increased significantly and rapidly, and a lot of the internet traffic today is strictly mobile. Not having your site optimized for mobile devices leaves you in a position to lose potential visitors and customers. With that knowledge in mind, your biggest decision to make at this point is not if you should go mobile, but what is the best way to do it – with a plugin or with a new web platform. Both using a plugin and creating a web platform have their advantages and disadvantages, so keep on reading this article, to understand which option is better for you to take your website on-the-go.

Mobile Plugins
Using mobile plugins is definitely the easier route to take. They are generally offered by the host of your website or a third party, and give you the opportunity to install a plugin on your website that automatically converts it to mobile. Basically, what this means is that once you have installed the plugin, anyone visiting your site on a mobile device will automatically see your site's mobile optimized version. Plugins are very easy to use, as optimizing requires nothing more than downloading and installing the appropriate one on your website. You will definitely save time and money with a plugin.
However using a plugin means that you will also lose the ability to have much control over your mobile site. There is little, if any opportunity for customizing, meaning that your site will likely be squeezed into a ready-made template that might not be the most conducive to what you are offering.

Mobile Web Platform
Building a brand-new, customized mobile website offers a lot of advantages not available to those using a plugin, customization obviously being the main one. As mentioned, customization lets you control the design and layout of the site, instead of fitting it into a template. If your standard site is highly customized, it will probably be worth to spend the extra time and money to do a custom design also for your mobile site– you will want that extra control over the final look, and be able to ensure that you can retain all the features. This usually means that you will be able to use more media-rich content, like videos, maps and info graphics  and control how it looks, and just generally retain more of the features from your standard site like the look, style, and brand identity that you cultivated so carefully on your main website.

Choosing between the two has a lot to do with your available resources and time, but do think long and hard about whether customizing is really necessary for your site. If you follow a fairly standard, text-based format, it might not be worth the money and headache to customize. And if you do go the customizing route, work with and listen to the experts. You do not want to end up spending a lot of time and money developing a inefficient website.

[ How To ] Compile Your Own Android Rom From Source

I take no credit from the following post as it is shared . i request readers to view the tutorial writer info below the post .

This guide helps to setting up and compiling JB (android jelly bean 4.1 or above ) or ICS for the Samsung galaxy nexus device .

Following steps will clearly explain you how to setup the building environment , setting up and compile Rom .

NOTE : Below Steps are for Samsung galaxy nexus and for other device i request you to read full post .

Mandatory Things to Read First :

  • For the purposes of this guide, you MUST be running 64-bit Ubuntu. This can be set up on a VM (it will compile if set correctly).
  • If using a VM, ensure you give it at LEAST 2 GB RAM and 2xCores (it'll take 3-4 hours at best)
  • The source download is approximately 6gb.. you're going to need 25 GB HD space for a single build.
To learn how to setup a Ubuntu 64bit VM on your Windows PC, use THIS GUIDE. I recommend using 10.04.

So... let's assume you're running Ubuntu 64 bit for the first time, and start right from the beginning.

FYI  : You're probably better of copying and pasting these commands, as some are quite long! All commands are in RED!

Steps :

1. Preparing your development environment

The very first thing you're going to need to do, is ensure you're working in a root terminal. Much like when using your Android phone, you'll want the # and not the $. In order to do this, open TERMINAL, and type:

sudo -i

Then type in your password. From this point forward, all of the commands in this guide assume you have root priviliges (saves typing sudo *superuser do* before everything!)

Next, we need to add a repository so that apt-get knows where to look for Java JDK:

add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"

After that, you'll need to update the repository with the following command:

apt-get update

Now that your repository has been updated, you can proceed with installing the required packages to make building Android from source possible. The first thing you're going to need is the Java Development Kit 6:

apt-get install sun-java6-jdk

Followed by (and this may already be installed depending on which version of Ubuntu you went for):

apt-get install python

Now you're going to need Git. Git is the revision control system.

apt-get install git-core

Now, you're going to pull in all the required packages needed for the build process. As I have stated already, this guide is for 64 bit ONLY. Some of these will not work on 32-bit, so if you're using 32 bit, you're reading the wrong guide (sorry)!

apt-get install git-core gnupg flex bison gperf build-essential zip curl zlib1g-dev libc6-dev lib32ncurses5-dev ia32-libs x11proto-core-dev libx11-dev lib32readline5-dev lib32z-dev libgl1-mesa-dev g++-multilib mingw32 tofrodos python-markdown libxml2-utils

IF YOU'RE USING UBUNTU 11.10, TYPE THIS COMMAND (if not, ignore this next one)

ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libX11.so.6 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libX11.so

Congratulations; you now have all the required packages to proceed with the next step!

2. Installing and initialising the repo

Now we need to download repo, add it to our path and set the permissions . Please note that if you close terminal, you'll have to do this again. Type each command on a new line, pressing enter after each:

mkdir ~/bin
PATH=~/bin:$PATH
curl https://dl-ssl.google.com/dl/googlesource/git-repo/repo > ~/bin/repo
chmod a+x ~/bin/repo

Now we need to create a directory for where our source is going to be pulled to, and change directory to it:

mkdir ICS_SOURCE
cd ICS_SOURCE

Next, you'll need to initialize the repo. There are two commands below; the top one initializes the specific branch, and the bottom is the master.

ONLY USE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS (recommended - TOP)

ICS: repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.0.4_r1
Jellybean: repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest -b android-4.1.2_r1

OR:

repo init -u https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest

You will now be prompted to provide your name and email address. Please give it real details; that way you can use the gerrit code review tool if your email is connected with a Google account.

3. Downloading the source (sync)

This is probably the most simple part, but depending on your connection speed, it could take a while. I am on 40mb download/10mb up, and it took about 25 mins. If you're on a typical DSL connection, expect to be waiting 60-120 minutes.

repo sync

4. Obtaining proprietary binaries

New for ICS, Android cannot just be compiled from source code only. It requires additional hardware-related proprietary libraries to run, specifically for graphics acceleration (and GSM/LTE).

The binaries must first be downloaded from here

Each set of binaries comes as a self-extracting script in a compressed archive. After uncompressing each archive, run the included self-extracting script from the root of the source tree, confirm that you agree to the terms of the enclosed license agreement, and the binaries and their matching make files will get installed in the vendor/ hierarchy of the source tree.
For example... after extracting one of the files, you will have 'extract-imgtech-maguro.sh'. Simply run:

sh extract-imgtech-maguro.sh

From your ICS_Source directory.

IMPORTANT NOTE : If you are building for the Nexus S, you will need the Nexus S binaries.

5. It's build time!

If you're a JAVA developer, feel free to have a play with the source and make any changes you want to make at this stage. Be careful though, adding rubbish/old syntax code to the source (formatting is slightly different to gingerbread) will cause the build to fail.

Assuming that you just want to get on with building ICS, set the build environment up with:

source build/envsetup.sh

Next, you'll need to lunch. I don't mean go and have a sandwich, I mean... select which device you're building for.

NOTE - you can add other devices to this list PRIOR to proceeding with this step. If you're NOT building for the GNexus, go to the bottom of this guide and look at how to add devices to the list.

As previously stated, we're going to assume you're building for the Galaxy nexus, so type:

lunch

You'll be presented with a number of options (full-eng, etc).

If you're building for the Galaxy Nexus ( codename : Maguro ), type:

8

(7 for Nexus S and 6 for Nexus S 4G )

and hit enter. Now, we're ready to set the compile in motion, ladies and gentlemen. There's a lot of debate over the next bit. the -j part of the below command is technically not needed, but I have had MUCH more success compiling on a virtual machine with the -j1 added. Could be random... who knows...

Anyway, to set your build in motion, you now have TWO options. The first option will output the build as img files. The second option will output a flash able.zip file. I recommend the latter if you intent to use CWM over fastboot.

make -j1

or

make -j1 otapackage

That's it . Within some hours you will get a working ASOP for Samsung galaxy nexus .

The above post is shared From XDA , and the Credits goes to the tutorial writer NPRussell .

NOTE : NpRussell has shared a tutorial on how to setting up and compile Rom from Source to different device and also added some additional notes to make things better here  on the site FreeYourAndroid .

Scrath and Recover CD's - Complete Guide

Most of the people are used to electronic media devices like USB Drives by present. But at early days people used to save the data on Compact Disks (CDs). Normally CDs were used to keep saved their memories in photos, videos etc.

But with the CDs getting older and are issued on durability. Most of the CDs are now found with scratches.
Some procedures that can remove the scratches temporarily.
Procedure:

  • Take a soft cloth. Place that cloth on a flat surface. Make sure the cloth is not wet. Place the CD on the cloth.
  • Hold the CD on one hand and smoothly wipe the CD with the soft cloth. Give more concern to the starched areas. Don't hold the CD tight. Simply do some short and smooth strokes on the CD along the scratched areas. But don't rub it across the scratched area. This will make the scratches worse.
  • If you see no scratches wash the CD with some water. Don't wipe it with clothes if it's wet. Let it be dry, now you can play the CD.

Some toothpaste can also be used, if deep scratches are found. But this should also be wiped along the scratch, not across the scratch.

Note: To be tried on your own risk. If any issues we are not responsible.

Android Boot animation - Simple Guide with tools attached

Want To Create Your Own Boot animation for your android device . Here's the simple guide for you !!

Bootanimation Logo

DISCLAIMER:
I am not responsible if you break your phone. You should always do a nandroid backup befor flashing any files.

Required :

  • Create a series of .png files.
Tools :
Guide :

Step 1: Folders
We need to make folders. The number of folders depends on what type of animation you want. You can name the folders anything you want as long as they are reflected in your desc.txt (desc.txt ? described below).

NOTE : If you have a video that you want to repeat, you will need only 1 folder. (Name it anything you want)

If you want an intro (only shown once) and then a repeated set, You will need 2 folders. Most common names: (part0, part1)

Step 2: Images

Each image in the video is called a frame. They usually vary slightly from image to image which sped through makes the illusion of a video.

  • Each frame must be 480*800 px (thats 480 pixels wide by 800 pixels tall).
  • Each frame must be saved in a .png format. (If you are using Photoshop, File > Save for Web & Devices to reduce the file size drastically.)
  • Each frame needs to have some numarical value.
  • Recommended would be something like frame0001.png, frame0002.png, frame0003.png, etc.
  • Try to keep it under 300 images total

After all of the images are created, we now need to place them in folders.

Step 3: Placing images in folders
This step will vary from user to user. based on what type of animation you are making.

Intro to loop (2 folders):
With this one, you are going to place all of the images that is to be the intro to folder 1.
All looping images will go into folder 2.

Looping video:
All images will go into a single folder.

Step 4: desc.txt

Desc.txt . As i said before we will describe about it breifly .what exactly will do ? I Simple , it will tell the android what to do !

Open up your text editing program. You have to use something other then notepad/wordpad included with Windows. They add some funky stuff for every new line you make which will ultimately break the script. It is best to use Notepad++.

This is an example of a desc.txt that has 2 folders in it:
480 800 20
p 1 0 intro
p 0 0 repeat
Here is what it is telling android to do line by line:
480 800 20 <-- Width of the animation in pixels. This will stay 480 for Evo users Height of the animation. Keep this 800 for Evo Users Frames per second. This is basically your 'speed' of the animation. This will stay in between 10-30 (10 being slower, longer, and choppy; 30 being fast, short, and smooth.)

p 1 0 intro <-- p is telling it to play this folder. It will always be there. Folder is to be played 1 time before moving on to the next folder. Pause the movie for 0 frames after the animation is completed before moving on to the next folder. (This will normally stay 0). Name of the folder to be played. In this case, the folder named "intro" gets played once and then it moves on to the next line.

p 0 0 repeat <-- Play the animation... Folder is to be indefinately played. The 0 is telling it to play this folderover and over. Just keep it 0. Folder "repeat" gets played

And now for an example of a single folder (same thing looping over and over):
480 800 20
p 0 0 part0
So same as before... 480px wide by 800px tall at 20 FPS
Play the folder "part0" an indefinate amount with no pause in between.

Why not go funky!:
480 800 20
p 1 0 intro
p 5 0 cookies
p 2 0 cake
p 0 0 mynion
Same... 480px wide by 800px tall at 20 FPS
Play "intro" 1 time with no pause
Play "cookies" 5 times with no pause
Play "cake" 2 times with no pause
Play "mynion" indefinately

Ok. So now we save this file with the file name "desc.txt". It must be named that. Case sensitive.

Step 5: Packaging
Package this sweetness of a custom boot animation!
(Just an assumption . If you are using Windows with WinRAR. Steps may vary from OS and program)

  1.  Highlight all of your folders and desc.txt and right click > "Add to archive..."
  2.  On the left side, change the radio buttons from rar to zip
  3.  Change compression method to "store"

Steps to Make permanent Subtitle For your Videos

Heres the Step by step guide for creating Subtitle For your Favourite Videos .

Supported Formats are :
  • VCD,
  • SVCD,
  • DVD
  • AVI
  • DivX
  • XviD .
Tools Required :
FYI ( For Your Info ) :

Make Sure You have a Subs or srt format . If you want to make your own subtitle or subtitle in different format use the tool Subtitle Converters .
Rename the subtitle file to the same name as the video but with a .sub or .srt extension
(Be sure to turn of Hide extension for known files types in Windows Explorer under Tools->Folder Options->View).
Example:
  • video.avi
  • video.sub etc

Steps

First we must install a subtitle filter. You can use ffdshow or vobsub subtitle filter.

Using vobsub filter
Install vobsub and you are done. To change subtitles settings run the vobsub configure from the
Start menu->vobsub.

or Using ffdshow filter
Install ffdshow and run the ffdshow Configuration from the
Start menu->ffdshow->Configuration.

ffdshow subtitle
  1. Select Subtitles in the menu to the left
  2. Enable the subtitles.
  3. Hit Ok.
Now should the subtitles appear if you play the video with Media Player. If not then the subtitles may be in wrong format.

Converting to VCD,SVCD,DVD or AVI

Convert with TMPGenc
Start TMPGEnc and close the Wizard. First change the Directshow priority in TMPGEnc (the Directshow reader reads the subtitles the same way as Media Player).
  1. Select Option->Enviromentel Settings
  2. Select VFAPI Plugin
  3. Right click on the Directshow Multimedia File Reader and select Higher Priority, repeat it until it is on the top of the list.

Open the video with wizard or manual. The subtitles should now appear. Use File->Preview in TMPGEnc to check that you can see the subtitles before encoding.

Last just convert to VCD  or SVCD   or DVD   as usual.

To convert to AVI,DivX or XviD with permanent subtitles use TMPGEnc. In TMPGEnc first close the wizard, choose file->new project, open the video, choose File->Output to file->AVI File. Select a video compression like DivX or XviD and choose an audio compression like MP3 and hit save.
Done.

Stuck with Error or Having Problems :

  • The subs doesn't appear.
  • Try with both ffdshow and vobsub. Be sure that subs are in sub or srt format.

Be sure to change the directshow prirority in TMPgenc.

    • Wipe accordingly as outlined above
    • Use your recovery to flash the ROM file
    • Do NOT flash any gapps - they are all included

    3.  Flash the new baseband

Replace superuser with supersu and vice versa:
    • you need to remove the superuser/supersu.apk from system/app

Steps to create a project with Eclipse - Android

    Android Development Environment Needed :
    1. Download the Android SDK Starter Package.
    2. Install the ADT plugin for Eclipse (if you’ll use the Eclipse IDE).
    3. Download the latest SDK tools and platforms using the SDK Manager.
    Creating Android Project :
An Android project contains all the files that comprise the source code for your Android app. The Android SDK tools make it easy to start a new Android project with a set of default project directories and files.
For using Eclipse, the Android SDK and ADT plugin should be installed already.

Steps to create a project with Eclipse:

    1. In Eclipse, select File > New > Project. The resulting dialog should have a folder labeled Android.
    2.  (If you don’t see the Android folder, then you have not installed the ADT plugin - see Installing the ADT Plugin ).
    3. Open the Android folder, select Android Project and click Next.
    4. Enter a project name (such as "MyFirstApp") and click Next.
    5. Select a build target. This is the platform version against which you will compile your app.

We recommend that you select the latest version possible. You can still build your app to support older versions, but setting the build target to the latest version allows you to easily optimize your app for a great user experience on the latest Android-powered devices.
If you don't see any built targets listed, you need to install some using the Android SDK Manager tool
See step 4 in the installing guide.
    Click Next

5.Specify other app details, such as the:

    • Application Name: The app name that appears to the user. Enter "My First App".
Package Name : The package namespace for your app (following the same rules as packages in the Java programming language). Your package name must be unique across all packages installed on the Android system. For this reason, it's important that you use a standard domain-style package name that’s appropriate to your company or publisher entity.
For your first app, you can use something like "com.example.myapp" However, you cannot publish your app using the "com.example" namespace.

    • Create Activity : This is the class name for the primary user activity in your app (an activity represents a single screen in your app). Enter "MyFirstActivity".
    • Minimum SDK: Select 4 (Android 1.6).
    • Because this version is lower than the build target selected for the app, a warning appears, but that's alright. You simply need to be sure that you don't use any APIs that require an API level greater than the minimum SDK version without first using some code to verify the device's system version (you'll see this in some other classes).

     6.Click Finish.

Your Android project is now set up with some default files and you’re ready to begin building the app.
